How to Make a Wooden Soap Mold
Overview
Wooden soap molds will allow the soapmaker to create an oversize bar of soap that will be cut into several smaller bars of soap. You will make a large batch of soap and pour it into your lined wooden soap mold to cure. Once cured, the soap is taken out of the mold and cut into smaller bars.
This soap mold will make a three-pound bar of soap. The inside dimensions of this wooden soap-making box will be 15 1/16 in x 3 1/2 in. You will fill the soap box up so that the bars will be 2 1/2 in deep. You will be able to cut 10 one-inch bars per loaf.
Step 1
Cut three pieces out of your 1x4 board that will measure 15 1/16" long each. These pieces will be used for the lid and the side pieces.
Step 2
Cut two pieces out of the 1 x 4 board that measure 5 1/8" long each. These pieces will be used for the two ends.
Step 3
Cut one piece out of your 1 x 6 board that is 16 9/16" long. This will be used for the base of the wooden soap mold.
Step 4
Screw the end boards to the base. Now, screw your two sides into your base. For extra strength, you can use wood glue on the edges and screw the end boards to the sides. This forms your box.
Step 5
Create the lid by screwing a one-inch piece of scrap pine onto the lid. If you would like to have a fancier lid, you may screw a cabinet handle or door pull to the top.
Step 6
Sand the entire box inside and out. If you used wood glue, wait at least forty-eight hours before using. If you only used screws, you can use your wooden soap mold immediately.

Always line your wood box with parchment paper, plastic, or freezer paper.
Allow your soap to cure until it is hard to the touch. This should take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours.
Once your soap is cured, you can cut it.
Do not use the cured soap for three to four weeks after cutting it.
The wooden soap box is reusable.
Do not stain the box.
