How to Use Olive Oil Soap for Shaving
Overview
Olive oil makes for an excellent shaving lubricant. Used in lieu of shaving cream, olive oil provides a nice base for the razor to pass over. The soft lubricant prevents nicks, cuts and razor burn. Olive oil is highly moisturizing so your skin will feel soft and supple after you apply it. Due to its nourishing and hydrating properties, olive oil has also been shown to make skin appear younger.
Step 1
Buy a bottle of olive oil. Use virgin olive oil or extra virgin olive oil. You can use any type for use when shaving.
Step 2
Dry the area you are going to shave. Olive oil will have trouble staying on skin that is wet.
Step 3
Pour about two ounces of olive oil into your hand. You can use less for small areas and more for larger areas.
Step 4
Distribute the olive oil over the area you wish to shave. You can use olive oil as a shaving lubricant for any body area, including your legs, underarms, pubic area, face, and chest.
Step 5
Let the olive oil sit on your skin for one to two minutes before shaving. This gives the oil a chance to permeate your skin, thereby hydrating it.
Step 6
Shave against the direction of hair growth for a smoother feel. While the olive oil will help to prevent nicks, aim for a light touch with the razor. It should slide over the surface of your skin so you don't need to apply heavy pressure.
Step 7
Wash the olive oil off your skin using a facial or body cleanser. If you prefer, you can simply leave the olive oil on your skin. This will allow it to further moisturize your skin. If you do so, remove loose hairs with a damp towel.
